Living testimony to a bygone era
The uniqueness of the museum lies in its wealth of collections, comprising some 1,300 objects that retrace the economic and craft activities of yesteryear. A true guardian of memory, it reveals the secrets of professions that have now disappeared, such as glove-making, blacksmithing, clog-making and hemp-working.
Beyond the extinct activities, the collections echo the daily life of the inhabitants of Combe de Lancey, offering an authentic testimony to life at “la Comba d’Autrafé”. Period housing, mountain agriculture (particularly in the Belledonne massif), geology and flora come to life in the museum. It also plunges us into village life in the 19th century, with evocations of the time of Monseigneur Dupanloup and the First World War.
