Back in time through the centuries

The origins of Château du Touvet date back to the Middle Ages, making it a precious witness to bygone eras. Successively a strategic fortress and a pleasure residence, the château remained in the same family for over five centuries. It opens its doors to visitors wishing to immerse themselves in the refined atmosphere of the 18th century.

Around 1750, a pivotal period, the château underwent significant enlargements and embellishments. The elegant interior decor bears witness to this sumptuous era. It became a symbol of the success of the de Marcieu family, who played a leading role in the Dauphiné in the service of Louis XV. The château also houses the historical memorabilia of Napoleon 1st’s Marshal, Nicolas Oudinot.

Castle life in its purest form

Painted woodwork, gypseries, inlaid parquet floors and gilded leather hangings have all been carefully preserved, offering a glimpse into the art of living of the Dauphiné nobility. Collections of furniture, paintings and an impressive archive evoke the Monarchy and Empire. A visit to Château du Touvet thus becomes a journey back in time, revealing the codes of life of bygone eras.
